MANILA, Philippines -- Puregold Price Club Inc. has expanded its footprint further north of Metro Manila, with the company's first store in the capital of Benguet province. The new store in La Trinidad town would be a hypermarket and Puregold's 101st store nationwide, the company said in a disclosure to the local bourse. Puregold caters to the C and resellers markets, which account for 65 percent and 35 percent, respectively, of its business. The company serves more than 2 million households and 170,000 small entrepreneurs. Before this latest store opening, Puregold's presence had reached as far north as Baguio City, and as far south as Bicol Region.
The grocery chain operator aims to open 25 new stores this year, after ending 2011 with 100 stores, including 61 hypermarkets, 28 supermarkets (called Puregold Jr.) and 11 discounters (called Puregold Extra). The bulk of Puregold's stores at 53 are in Metro Manila, while 16 are located north and 31 are south of the Philippine capital.
"Puregold plans to double the number of its stores by 2015 as it saturates further into the untapped Metro Manila and the Luzon areas and as it expands into the Visayas and Mindanao," the company said.
